Epoyo vs Google Analytics
GA4 is free, already installed, and structurally unable to name the video that brought a customer. What it does well, what it cannot do, and why the two work better together.
What Google Analytics is for
GA4 is the default web analytics tool for most of the internet, it costs nothing at the scale most founders operate at, and it is genuinely good at describing what happens on your site: which pages people saw, where they abandoned, which key events fired.
Where Epoyo differs
GA4's view begins the moment someone arrives. Everything that happened before that -- which video they watched, whether they finished it, what the hook was -- is outside its world. It is a session-level tool being asked a content-level question, and no amount of configuration changes that.
| Google Analytics | Epoyo | |
|---|---|---|
| Where its view starts | The arriving session | The post that caused the arrival |
| Can name the video | No | Yes, given a coded destination |
| Per-post content statistics | Not available | Views, likes, comments, shares and saves per post |
| Handles referrer-less in-app browsers | Files them as Direct | Reads the code in the URL |
| Describes on-site drop-off | Very well | Uses GA4 or its own tracking for this |
Choose Google Analytics if
- You need general-purpose web analytics for a whole site, not just content-driven traffic.
- Your budget for analytics is zero and your traffic is not primarily from short-form.
- The question you care about is on-site behaviour rather than what caused the visit.
Choose Epoyo if
- Most of your traffic arrives from short-form and lands in Direct.
- You need the campaign named beside the conversion, which is not a report GA4 can produce.
- You want the content side and the conversion side in one place.
Common questions
- Does Epoyo replace Google Analytics?
- No, and it is designed to connect to it instead. GA4 remains the better description of on-site behaviour. Epoyo supplies the half GA4 structurally lacks: which post produced the session.
- Why does GA4 show my TikTok traffic as direct?
- TikTok opens links in an in-app browser that usually sends no referrer, so GA4 has nothing to classify the session by. Campaign parameters on the link fix it, because GA4 reads those before it looks for a referrer.
